Minehead and Dunster
Minehead and Dunster Somerset

Two historical towns in Somerset are Minehead and Dunster. I visited these towns in July.

All the pictures on this page can be clicked on. You will have a much larger picture to see and you will be able to send a postcard. Definately a fun page!

Minehead
There is plenty of sand and open space on the beach. The town puts alot of effort into floral displays about the town. The view is very attractive once the steep climb has been done.

There is a path from the harbour up to North Hill. It is very steep so it is better walking down it to the harbour.
Church Steps
I enjoyed the walk up to the church and climbing the church steps. There is alot of history here. It is a good place to take photographs too. The view is splended.
Thatch Cottage Minehead
I saw this thatched cottage and thought what a lovely dwelling.
The Beach
The beach is sandy and there is plenty of space.
The Promenade
The promenade runs along the sea front. It starts at the harbour. Here there are lots of old cottages. These are the original buildings in Minehead.

This was taken in the first light of day so the Bristol Channel looks cold and uninviting at this time of day.
Dunster
In the 12century the sea was at Dunster. Now its 2 miles away.

The picture shows the medievel yarn Market. It has an unusual shaped roof. Here local cloth was sold. Dunster cloth was made in the village.

There are lots of thatched cottages and a packhorse bridge.

There is a Castle also to see.
The Pack Horse Bridge.
In the old days pack horses would come this way into Dunster to bring cloth to the market.

Chaucer said of Dunster "Fair as is the rose in May."
